A nationwide cold wave brought morning lows between -18°C and -4°C, with strong winds making it feel even colder. Seoul issued its first cold wave warning of the winter, and coastal areas saw frozen mudflats.

The cold is caused by northern winds from a stagnant atmospheric flow, bringing frigid air to the Korean Peninsula.

The cold snap will continue through the weekend, with morning lows of -17°C to -3°C on Wednesday (5th) and -17°C to -4°C on Thursday (6th). Some areas may see snow, and temperatures are expected to ease starting Tuesday (11th).
